Carolina Game Should Be A Good Indicator
Which Saints will show up today? The mistake prone team that played the Redskins, or the flawless champions who played Oakland last week?
The Saints’ defense has really come around in the past few games, showing me that perhaps I underestimated their ability and determination. On the other hand, one could easily say that the teams they were up against had a lot to do with the stellar performances. The success shown against Oakland was some of the best play all year, and the same could be said for the Saints’ offense.
Carolina is a different kind of team though. Their play is much more solid than Oakland and Frisco, and better opponents tend to “bring out the worst” in the New Orleans Saints. While it’s still early in the season, this is a critical game against a division opponent that could have a really good impact on the Saints standings. It will also show us how well the Saints can handle the adversity of a tough opponent.

Yes. The question today was most definitely, “Which Saints will show up today?” It was the mistake prone team, but more-so, it was the individual efforts. The New Orleans Saints were not focused. The Reason for this is Motivation. Players were not Motivated, This is clear because of each players apparent Effort on Every play. If the team as a whole wanted to win, they would have done what was necessary on every play.
Some examples include Jeremy Shockey missing a key block and receivers not making key catches. On 3rd down, we could not make yards. On fourth and short, we did not attempt to put Deuce on the Field with Drew Brees’s arm.
Jeremy Shockey, you are one of my favorite players. You are not motivated though. Do you want to win? Do you want to do what it takes to win?
Motivation is the key issue, for the ENTIRE TEAM. Look at Jason David. He ALMOST lost his job in the preseason. He came out of the preseason Keeping his Job. He knew he had to try harder if he wanted to stick around. He did it and it is paying off. He has played some of the best football among ANY member of the New Orleans Saints.
From a Coaching/Play Calling perspective, Sean Peyton, you almost did a good job. For one, Deuce must Always be on the field for 3rd/4th and short. We do not need to take risk, but what is the risk of sticking to what you are good at? For example, what are the Carolina Panthers doing well?- Jamming the pass game at the line to cause short passing gains. What can we effectively do to beat it?- The receivers go after the ball hard and we pound it in there with Deuce. We play all 4 downs. That is what we are good at- and when we do that, we win.
Sincerely,
Devoted Fan.
P.S. Players, watch the replay of the hole game. Were you motivated? Get Pumped Up!!!!!!

It seems to me that we are overlooking a key factor in “motivation” as well. COACHING! Sean Payton understands the game and has collected lots of talent, but great coaches motivate their players and instill cohesion. Also let’s be blunt. Payton is determined that his game plan will work, and he will stick to it until it does. All great coaches understand that a game plan is great until the first snap, and then it is a matter of adapting to the game as it evolves. Payton is quite obviously incapable of this. I mean seriously. We have one of the toughest and most reliable running backs in Deuce Mcallister. Over and over Payton refuses to use him to wear down defenses. Deuce can give credence to the play action in a significant way, which would allow significantly improved pocket time and downfield coverage situations for Brees to throw into. Everyone is scared to criticize coach because he took us to our one and only NFC championship game, but a coach who refuses to evolve and depends on trickery to substitute for sweat and hard work will never get the Saints to the Superbowl.

that was a well fought game, but your defense needs to be able to get some 3 and outs and not cough up the ball.
I surely do look up to another match up with your team again, which should be damn good especially with shockey a little bit healed up, and hopefully reggie bush all healed up.
Thanks for an amazing game.
