Saints 31, 49′rs 17

September 28th, 2008 by Chris H.

Wow, look who showed up to play today! The defense!!! 5 Sacks?!? 2 Interceptions?!?! UNHEARD OF. The 49′rs still scored 17 points, but 17 is better than what they allowed in the previous match-ups. What I really want to know, is if our defense is really that good and they just don’t put out the effort most Sundays, or is it that the 49′rs are just that bad?

Brees was bombastic, and we finally got our running game back. Congrats to Deuce for scoring his first TD this season. We look forward to many more. How ’bout Meecham! Damn good job young man. Lance Moore too - nice work. Now all we need is for the defense to keep showing up from week to week and we can put together a good record.

Broncos Beat the Saints, 34 - 32

September 26th, 2008 by Chris H.

I was on vacation without internet access up until yesterday, but I didn’t miss the game.

What a game it was, too. Here is my take.

Reggie Bush is incredible, but he needs to mature. Quit with all that stupid celebration stuff, and start working on holding onto the ball. That fumble cost us 7 points that would have won the game for us.

Jason David (are we still talking about this guy?) should have been fired last year. He sucks. He has always sucked. This week he got 2 pass interference penalties in the same game. Way to go Jason David and Gary Gibbs for keeping this loser around.

Gary Gibbs how long is our defense going to be the weakest part of the team? How long are we going to keep letting teams score 20+ points on us every game? If someone could put together a respectable defense for the Saints, we would be unstoppable.

Mike McKenzie, glad to see you back, thanks for stepping up to the plate and putting out the effort you do.

Martin Gramatica - we shouldn’t be relying on this guy, but if we are, we need to be able to.

Deuce McAllister, boy are we going to be glad to see you back next week.

Sean Payton, are you making the calls? Were those goal line stances the most creative ways you can come up with to get a yard? They looked pretty predictable to me. How about some more accountability with players who repeatedly fail to do their job (like Jason David)? Can you get rid of those guys?

The comeback from 21 - 3 was impressive, and really shows what this team is capable of. Too many mistakes cost us the game though, and our running game isn’t the same without the power that Deuce brings. I think the offensive line plays a critical part in the lack of running game last weekend though, because we know Pierre Thomas is a good back as well.

The thing I really liked about last weekend against the Broncos was the energy and enthusiasm that I saw a lot of players come with. It was in stark contrast to the flat, deadbeat showing we had the previous week against the Redskins. I can’t honestly give a guy too hard of a time when I see them trying. That’s why Jason David isn’t really Jason David’s fault - he’s trying, he just doesn’t have the ability. The coaching staff is to blame for keeping guys like that on the team and not recruiting better. Jason David’s just trying to make a living.

Saints Outplayed in Every Aspect of the Game Today

September 14th, 2008 by Chris H.

Saints 24, Redskins 29

The stats say it all, but the top 3 reasons the Saints lost today were:

  1. Inability to get the running game going.
  2. 3 turnovers
  3. Saints defense got scored on almost every time the redskins got the ball.

In the beginning I was glad to see we were holding them to field goals, but the problem was the field goals kept coming. We even got lucky when the Redskins missed 2 early on. Is this last year’s defense?

Saints Beat the Bucs 24 - 20!!!

September 9th, 2008 by Chris H.

WR Devery Henderson bolts 84 yards for a touchdown in the 3rd quarterOnly good thing about the drive home on Sunday from our Gustav evacuation was listening to WWL on the radio. I think my wife forgot how loud I get during the games, because she was a little shocked at times as I cheered on the guys. At least it didn’t cause an accident on the highway.

An unreal game, and a much different start than we had last year. I’m happy the defense could hold it together, only allowing 13 points. That wasn’t something I was expecting. How about Fujita at the end! How many times have I yelled his name in celebratory glory?

Only complaints I had were the missed tackles, penalties, and Reggie fumbling the ball that time when I’m guessing they ruled he didn’t have posession or something (we had stopped for lunch and I had the game on tv with no sound). I don’t really agree with what the NFL calls “posession” of the ball these days. Although it worked in our favor this time, I still think it’s BS. If you have both hands on the ball, that should be posession. It shouldn’t matter if you tuck it in or not. But like I said, I don’t even know if that was the ruling for that play. Bush should have held on regardless, it could have cost us the game. It reminded me of why I was calling him butterfingers Bush last year. He made up for it in the end though. Good job guys.
