Right now, Sport’s Illustrated’s front page has a large picture of Reggie Bush with the caption “Reggie Bush’s Saints were one step from the Super Bowl last season”. While I’m certainly a huge Bush fan, this team is in no way ‘his’ team. Right now, Drew Brees is the absolute heart of this team and one of the major fears I have about this season is his ability to stay healthy. With Brees, we are a 12-4 team. Without him, we go 4-12.

Hitting on all cylinders is an understatement. Few preseason numbers truly matter. The only one that really interests me is Drew Brees’ completion percentage. It sits at 80%, leading the league. Every time he drops back to pass, we get 10 yards. But like any true Saints fan, this has me uneasy. Can we really be this good? While we have had decent teams in the past, this is the first year we have ever been, not contenders, but favorites to go to the Super Bowl. If we don’t make the playoffs, this season will be considered a total loss. There’s been years when I thought eight wins would be an achievement.
So, to take my mind off of scary thoughts like those, I’ll move forward to the Saints’ first game. With everyone who has even a passing interest in professional football sure to tune in to the season opener, we go into the defending Super Bowl champions’ house. These two teams are, on paper, very similar. Both are offensive powerhouses with questionable defenses. Almost everyone would say that the Colts have a slight edge on offense, but I disagree. I think the Saints have a far superior ground game, which teams tend to rely on in the very early and very late parts of the season. I think we’ll work the clock, keep the crowd out of it. It’s on turf, which helps our offense, but hurts our defense. We still have an overall lack of team speed on defense. The only thing I have a question mark about is our receivers, not our corners (I know they’ll be bad). I just hope Colston can step into the #1 and shine, but we haven’t seen much of either him or Devery in the offseason.
I’ll go ahead with the prediction, a week early: 28-17 Saints. The Colts have come out on fire the last two years, but I think (fear) that we may beat them off the strength of our ground game.

Wow, what a game to watch last night HUH?? Is there anyone else out there who wants Aaron Brooks back or is it just me?? I don’t think this Brees thing is gonna work out. …Just Kidding!!
That was as impressive a performance as I’ve seen in a long time. Every aspect of the game was absolutely dominated by the Saints. Offense, defense, special teams, and coaching. …Now, before I get too deep into this lovefest, …I know that Larry Johnson didn’t play, and I know that Brodie Croyle isn’t a very good QB right now, and yes, I know that Herm Edwards is about half way through wrecking his second franchise, but the Chiefs were playing their starters against ours and we demolished ‘em.
I think we can all agree that it feels pretty good to be a Saints fan these days and our boys will get more respect this year than at any other time in the team’s history. With any luck, we will all get a Super Bowl win to boot!! Go Saints and Who Dat????

If any of you have read my blog site, www.allnfltalk.com, you’ll know that I have been very critical of the Saints’ decision to take WR Robert Meacham over TE Greg Olson in last April’s NFL Draft.
As an avid SEC football fan I couldn’t help but notice that Meacham is not a guy who will go across the middle or even go up and fight for jump balls around the end zone, … and will someone please remind me what happened when he caught his first pass in the NFL??? He was hurt by a moderate hit, at best.
Oh,… and has anyone else noticed that our high priced first round draft pick is still listed as the fourth string wide receiver going into the fourth preseason game in Kansas City tomorrow night? Sometimes, I hate it when I’m right. Let me know what you think.

After watching the Saint’s third preseason game the other night, I couldn’t help but notice that Fred Thomas is still the starting cornerback for our beloved black and gold. Did you hear me?? What the #$%^?? Didn’t we just spend a zillion dollars on a cornerback from the World Champion Indianapolis Colts?? …Now, I’m enjoying this wave of success as much as anybody, but this is scaring the hell out of me!!
My dad always told me … “If it looks like crap, and it smells like crap, … it’s probably crap, so why is the biggest glaring problem on our team still the biggest glaring problem on our team??
Please…, someone…, take away the pain!!
Oh Yeah, …did I see the afore-mentioned Jason David field a punt in the fourth quarter the other night or was it the hooch?? Please, comment away.
It is an honor to be a writer on this blog and I would like to thank the owner for allowing me the opportunity to spew my semi-educated, yet passion induced, drivel on this site. Thanks for reading and I’ll blog at you again later.

Somebody just forwarded this to me. I like it a lot. It looks like a guy named Dan Swenson did the flash animation, and the music is by Baby Boy Da Prince, a local rapper.
Enjoy.

Someone sent me this video of a commercial for Madden 2008 that stars Reggie Bush’s character.

I think he felt sorry for my stagnant blog

I love the saints, but I’m not a very prolific writer. I usually just post during regular season. I’m looking for someone else to co-author this blog. The site has decent search engine rankings, and is a great way for a writer to get name recognition or promote their business by putting it in the footer of their blog posts.
If you are a good writer and passionate about the New Orleans Saints, drop me a line. My email address is chartwell at inlayout dot net.
